Martial arts gyms
Check-in at the door, rounds on the wall, belts on the record and dues in your bank — one system instead of four.
Set it up once
- Pick your art
Choose the belt ladder for what you teach. BJJ, kids BJJ on the thirteen-belt ladder, judo, karate, taekwondo — each with its own real ranks and stripes. Muay Thai, boxing and MMA have no formal belts and are set up without one rather than being given a fake ladder.
- Edit the ladder to match your school
The ladders are the standard ones, and your school is your school. Rename, reorder or remove ranks so the record matches what you actually award.
- Load your roster
Coming from Zen Planner? Export your roster to CSV and upload it — columns are mapped for you and you approve a preview before anything is created. We never ask for your Zen Planner login; it is a file, not a scraper.
- Put a tablet on the door
The kiosk view, full screen, sleep disabled. Members tap their name to check in. No password at the door.
- Put a screen on the wall
The wall screen shows the round clock, who is on, and today’s results. Open it once and leave it.
Running a class
A class is a running order of rounds. Set the round length and the rest, press start, and the wall counts down while the coach coaches. Broadcasts are one tap: SWITCH PARTNERS, WATER BREAK, LINE UP, RESET — GO LIGHT.
The default round is five minutes with a one-minute changeover, which you will change in about ten seconds to whatever your room actually runs.
Open mat and the wall
Open mat has no running order — that is the point of it. The wall runs the round clock and keeps today's results: who rolled, who finished it, how. Members report their own rounds from a kiosk or their phone, so no coach is refereeing a scoreboard.
You can open a “most rounds” window for a session and standings build inside it. Close it and the standings stop.
Belts and progress
| Thing | How it works |
|---|---|
| Promotions | Awarded by a coach, dated, and kept on the member’s record. Their history is theirs and it does not vanish when a coach leaves. |
| Stripes | Tracked alongside the belt, drawn correctly for the art — a four-stripe purple belt looks like one. |
| Attendance | Built from check-ins. It is the honest input to a promotion conversation. |
| Journal | A member’s own notes on what they drilled and what they are working on. Private to them unless they share it. |
| Curriculum | The techniques your school teaches, and where each member is against it. |
Dues
Members are charged on a schedule and the money lands in your bank account, not in ours in transit. The mechanics — what NextSet takes, what the card networks take, how payouts arrive — are on Collecting dues and payouts.
Privacy inside your gym
Members do not get to browse each other. A member can see their own record, the class schedule, and whatever is on the wall in a room they are standing in. They cannot look up another member, and there is no member directory to leak. Coaches and owners see the roster; members see themselves.
